In September of 2023, I completed a portrait of Clara Herrera, a woman whose multifaceted life embodied creativity and compassion. Clara was not only a talented writer but also a devoted mother and artist. Through her words, she captured the intricacies of human experience, drawing inspiration from her interactions and the communities she cherished. Her stories resonated deeply with many, illuminating the struggles and triumphs of those around her.
Beyond her artistic pursuits, Clara was a steadfast helper of communities far and wide. She advocated tirelessly to uplift the marginalized and amplify their voices.
As I painted her likeness, I aimed to convey not just her physical features but the warmth and strength she exuded. Each brushstroke was infused with admiration for her legacy, a testament to a life lived with purpose. Clara Herrera’s story is one of inspiration, and through this portrait, I hope to celebrate the indelible mark she left on the hearts of many, reminding us of the power of art, words, and compassion in shaping a better future.
With a heavy heart, my deepest condolences to her family.
I feel grateful I was able to cross paths with her, and I’m going to miss our phone calls talking about life, art, struggles and triumphs.
