One of my earliest memories of public art is visiting my family in Austin Texas and encountering the Cow Parade throughout the city.
This year, San Antonio has welcomed an impressive display of over 70 larger-than-life cows as part of the Cow Parade. I am truly honored to have the opportunity to paint one of these sculptures. The CowParade San Antonio benefits CHRISTUS Children’s and features a diverse array of uniquely painted cows placed around the city.
My piece, titled “Gifts of the Yanaguana,” is currently on display at Sea World until August 28th. It draws inspiration from the enchanting San Antonio River and its vibrant ecosystem. The artwork envisions a tranquil sunset rendered in warm shades of yellow, complemented by dragonflies, butterflies, and bird species such as the Blue Heron and Cedar Waxwing, along with turtles. Through this creation, I hope to foster an appreciation for the natural beauty that surrounds us and promote a message of environmental stewardship and conservation.
